For this, and any other Wacky Writing Ideas, I happily release them into the wild for anyone to use. If you like the idea and want to write it up, do so with my blessing! The core idea of this is that a group of blue-collar workers run an extermination company in a fantasy world that’s similar to ours. The opening scene could be one of them having a beer at a bar and telling a woman about hunting a vampire that day and, instead of being impressed, she looks down on him for “getting his hands dirty.”
The tone could be a mix of Ghost Busters and the Night Watch from Discworld. The characters working at the company would be like police officers or firefighters.
The structure of the novel could be that various combinations of the characters deal with a series of monster infestations. Some of those minor infestations will lead to the climax where all of them band together to deal with a major problem. Interspersed with their supernatural adventures would be their personal lives where they don’t get any respect from the people in their lives for their heroic day jobs.
