Wacky Writing Idea #11: Episode for Star Trek: Lower Decks

November 19, 2021 by John Champaign Leave a Comment

For this, and any other Wacky Writing Ideas, I happily release them into the wild for anyone to use. If you like the idea and want to write it up, do so with my blessing! If you want to change it or use it for something else, have at it! If you really want to do something nice for me, feel free to acknowledge me and let me know if you’ve used one of them (I’ll link to your creative work from my blog). If you don’t feel like it, no worries. If there’re a few comments with enthusiasm for an idea, I may write it up, so please comment if it sounds like something you’d like to read.

Dr. T’Ana’s home planet is invaded by crazy cat ladies who cuddle and pamper the entire population. The Caitians are irritated by how they’re treated but quickly succumb to the treatment and lounge around being spoiled. The crazy cat ladies take over doing all the necessary work on the Caitain homeworld but perform it poorly.

The Cerritos arrives and Captain Freeman broadcasts about a nearby planet with a Tribble infestation, which prompts all the crazy cat ladies to relocate to the new planet and make pets of the Tribbles. The Caitians are angry and hurt that the crazy cat ladies have left and want them to come back, but the crazy cat ladies prefer the Tribbles and refuse.

Mariner convinces the crazy cat ladies to open their Tribble-infested planet as a Risa-like resort, just for the Caitians, to be visited briefly for a vacation. The episode ends with Dr. T’Ana on leave at the resort planet acting like a house cat while some crazy cat ladies play with her and feed her treats.

This would obviously just be the backdrop for whatever was going on with the ensigns.

This idea has the added challenge that it’s intrinsically tied to an existing intellectual property. With many ideas based on existing IP, my suggestion would be to just create your own, similar world and move forward. With this, it has to be Star Trek, since the reader needs to understand the original narrative that’s being built on. Only ViacomCBS could do anything with this and, of course, they aren’t going to use random ideas from random people on the internet. Consider this an undeveloped fanfic.
